|
|
|
The Goethe-Institut and the Institute for Advanced
Study in the Humanities Essen are looking for six Scholars in Residence. We
look forward to receiving your application!
General Information
Scholars in Residence, a residence programme for young scholars, begins its
third year in 2011/2012. The programme aims to promote scholarly exchange by
enabling researchers in the fields of the humanities, cultural and social
sciences to spend time with host colleagues in Germany and abroad. This
gives young academics the opportunity to forge intensive relationships with
other researchers in an international context, to initiate and pursue joint
projects and to develop long-term bilateral collaborations.
The focal topics of Scholars in Residence 2011/2012 are as follows:
Climate and culture
Culture of memory
Migration
Business ethics/Culture and economics
Culture and conflict
Science, culture and digital media/Intellectual property
(Urban) culture and the public sphere
Programme Details
Within the framework of the focal topics, three tandem pairs take part in
Scholars in Residence, each comprising one young international and one young
German scholar.
The period spent in the host country ranges from between six and eight
weeks. One participant travels from 1 November 2011, while his tandem
partner visits the reciprocal country from 1 January 2012.
For the stay in the host country, the respective tandem partner organizes a
programme of events for the visiting scholar; this may encompass
presentations of the planned research; lectures, academic workshops,
seminars or conferences relating to the focal topic; visits to relevant
research institutes and the like. In Germany, a panel discussion for the
participants, to take place at the Goethe-Institut headquarters in Munich,
is also planned. Furthermore, it may be possible to attend the Goethe-Institut’s
German visitors’ programme for a few days: the Goethe-Institut organizes
information trips to Germany for guests from all over the world, giving them
the chance to meet with colleagues and experts from all disciplines –
accompanied by guides with the relevant language skills and academic
background – and enjoy informative discussions. In the reciprocal country,
an event at the local Goethe-Institut is planned.

For international participants: 10 January 2011
